The Hurricane/ Hurricane Party

Well, we survived Hurricane Irene! We are one of the few families around town who DIDN'T lose power, we are very lucky. We did lose the internet for two days which was torture, but it is back on now so life can go on. Our condo did suffer some water damage, so we didn't escape from Mean Irene completely unscathed.

Saturday night was hell. My son woke up at midnight and decided to party until three in the morning. It was definitely the worst night we've had with him since he was born. He wasn't miserable, just wanted to party. When the cable went out around 2:30 we knew we were in for it. He was not a happy camper that he couldn't watch Elmo. After another half our of misery I wrestled him to bed.

Sunday morning we woke up shocked to see that we still had power, but none of our neighbors did, and still don't. Our local family members are all out of power, so we are the go to residence for showers and dinners. We are housing my Grandma's stockpile of frozen goods, I can't promise that all of her lobster tails will be there when her freezer is up and running again.

Last night we had a Hurricane Party where we fed family members and allowed them to shower. No one else had power and a lot of them have well water which means no electricity, no flushing/showering/any fun at all. Our typical Sunday dinners don't involve take-turn-showers, but we adapt.
I must say that I am very happy to be the one who has power, after all, I do have a toddler.

I hope all others who were in Irene's path are safe, clean and cool!
