Big boy bed

My son is now sleeping in a big boy bed. I am a bit heartbroken over this. He is so happy and in love with his cool new bed, but seeing him asleep at night, curled up under his quilt with a Mickey Mouse doll under his arm is just about all I can take. He is getting so big!

His bed, half of a bunk bed set my dad bought when my brother came home from college, is perfect for my climber. The headboard and footboard functioned as the latter when it was used as a bottom bunk, needless to say Danny loves climbing that!

We weren't sure when we would make the transition to the big boy bed, but knew the time was coming. We even had Danny *ask* for bedding for Christmas. I had all of his new Pottery Barn Kids bedding hidden away for when we would *need* if after Christmas. Then, last Wednesday, I went into his room to wake him from a nap to find him in the middle of escaping climbing out of his crib. I knew it was time. We still had to buy a mattress and planned to do it over the weekend. When my husband and I watched Danny crawl half way out of his crib Saturday morning we knew we could not delay. We got the mattress and began to set up the big boy bed. *Tear*

Dec. 31st, 2011

He was so excited that he wanted to sit in the bed while we put it together. Thanks to the help of Uncle Bri Bri and his tool box the bed was ready for Danny to play in before New Years Eve dinner.

After dinner we stuck to our bedtime routine to a T. We wanted everything to seem as normal as possible to Danny. The only thing that was different was that we read his bedtime stories in his bed (at his demand). After story time I held Danny next to his bed, sang a song and said his prayers. He went right into his bed with just a few tears.

He didn't get out of his bed. All. Night. Long.

I can't say this enough-this kid is so easy that it makes me want so many more. I can't believe he just sleeps in his twin bed all night long without escaping! I am a very lucky Mommy!!

This is what we found in his bed yesterday morning:

He woke up, got two of his favorite things, then went back to play in his bed until we woke up and went in to get him.

I need to get a picture of him sleeping in the bed-it is so cute!

Last night was night three, he is doing a great job! Mom and Dad are both very proud, and a little heartbroken that our little man is growing up so fast.

At the end of the day a big boy bed is better than a broken arm or leg from the Great Crib Escape.
