I think my son may just be the next Johnny Castle (Dirty Dancing, for all you poor, poor souls that don't know). He loves to break out into random dance parties, at any given moment. He's got moves like Jagger, what can I say.
Today at dinner time he was being rather dreadful, I'm not sure what is so terrible about a home cooked meal and a family dinner, but he was not having it. My husband and I finally gave up and allowed him to get down from the table to roam the house while we finished our dinner. Instead of roaming he went into the kitchen and broke out with a dance. He was twirling, dancing in circles, shaking his booty and jumping up and down. The child was on fire. I quickly turned on Pandora's Kidz Bop station so he could have something to dance to. This only encouraged his escapades. He was groovin' even harder than before. A few minutes later he asked me to join. Eventually Danny, Stephen and I were dancing our tails off in the kitchen and having a great time.
Sometimes I can't help but wonder if we weren't "young parents," would we be breaking out into dance parties like we do. I wonder if we would spend our Saturday mornings in PJ's, wrestling and playing with legos. I also wonder if we will still do these things after we become a family of four. We have really enjoyed our two years as being first time parents, I hope that we have just as much fun when we are second time parents.

My Lion
When I wake up in the morning and talk to my son he doesn't say "Mama" anymore, he just roars like a lion.
He doesn't think he is a lion, he is just obsessed with them. Ever since Uncle Joe brought The Lion King over my kid thinks of nothing else. He doesn't even want to watch Nemo anymore. So much for my Nemo themed birthday party in a few weeks. . .
I had no idea an almost-two-year-old could be so obsessed with something. We will be making a trip to the zoo very soon, this kid needs to see some real life lions.
It is really sweet watching him watch the movie. When Simba is being presented to the kingdom he says "Mama, Dada" when the mom and dad lion come to view. He gets scared when Mufasa dies, always comes running to me saying "Dada, Dada." He is such a sweetheart.
I am getting a little tired of watching The Lion King every day, but of all the Disney movies, this is one of the best ones so I should count my blessings.

Sleep Talking
My son has been sleep talking. Not in a creepy all night kind of way, just in the 20 minutes or so before he wakes up. One day last weeks he was laying in bed looking like a sweet little angel when he said "Momo about five times." He must have been thinking about his paternal grandmother, or perhaps he had a dream about her, but it was very sweet.
Yesterday morning I was trying to wake him up so we could get ready to get back to the grind. When I got to him he was tossing around and saying "no." He wasn't saying it in a frightened way, more in the sweet way he says "no" when he is trying to be cute.
This morning when I went to wake him up he was completely silent do my disappointment. I know we aren't supposed to want our kids to do "weird" things, but I can't help but hope he is quacking like a duck when I wake him up tomorrow morning.

Jesus
While trying to get my son to not be a menace at church today (darn nursery volunteer for the last Sunday of the month never shows up), he discovered an image of Jesus. When the image caught his eye he pointed and said "Joe." Now I know he loves his Uncle Joe, he always talks about him, but he is not Jesus. I told him that the person he was looking at was Jesus, not Uncle Joe and he looked at me like I was crazy. I assured him that it was Jesus and he agreed, saying "Jesus, Jesus. . ." I have to say it was the sweetest thing hearing my little boy say that. It is a hard name to say, and just puts a grin on my face.

The Bully
My son is the bully. I'm not sure exactly what to do about this. I'll say it, I'm not against spanking, but I have enough awareness of the world around me not to give him a swat on the butt when we're out in public. So when we're at the park and he starts trying to rough up a kid it is hard know what to do.
I pull him aside and talk to him, explain that he needs to be nice to the other kids, but lets face it, he is an almost two-year-old with limited language skills, he doesn't really "get" it yet.
Another problem is that he always tries to pick on the bigger kids, like four and five year olds. He thinks everything is his and he does not like it when other kids try to play with the playground that he owns (in his own little mind).
I'm hoping that after I graduate he will get more consistency, it will be just he and I, no one else will be taking care of him during the day and letting him get away with mischief. One can only hope.
He did get kicked in the face, resulting in a fat, bloody lip while going down the slide, he started acting a little nicer after that. It is a sad day when a mother has to let her child get pounded on a little in order for him to be nice to the other kids.
It is a good thing that I don't believe in giving my children drugs for ADD or Danny might be on something already, that child does not slow down!

Baby X
I love my midwife practice. I feel so comfortable there, it seems like the midwives actually care about the patients. Today, during my appointment I was able to spend 30 minutes talking to the midwife, asking questions, and talking about how to attempt to prevent Gestational Diabetes. I also love that this particular midwife reassured me that there is no shame in transferring to the hospital if while at the birthing center I would trade my husband for an epidural.
Baby X sounded wonderful on the doppler. I could hear him/her moving around behind the heartbeat. What a sweet sweet thing.
It is such a relief, after all the troubles I had in Yuma, AZ with my healthcare providers, to know that I am in good hands, and that I can rest assured that I am getting great care.

Very Strange
So my son is doing something very strange. Every time I read him "Rock-a-Bye Baby" out of one of his story books he gets choked up and then bursts into tears, needing me to hug and kiss him until he calms down a few minutes later. This has happened four times now. He brings the book to me, he asks me to read the story. I have even started asking him if he wants me to read him the story even though it makes him sad, and he says yes.
I'm thinking it could be that it makes him sad thinking that the baby in the story is hurt. He is very concerned with helping take care of his baby cousin, and I'm thinking he might associate the baby in the story with his cousin. Sometimes after he starts crying he says "shh" and points to the Moses Basket where his cousin sleeps when he is at our house.
Or, as a friend suggested, there just might be something in the story that makes him sad.
Maybe a combination of both?
Either way, it is half heartbreaking and half funny, he wants me to read the story! I think I have had enough of it though, I just put him down for a nap and took the book with me. I'm thinking I will hide it for a while and see how it goes.
What a silly little boy.
